Your first off-road trips will be with people knowing well the desert. Thus you will learn from their experiences. The best way is to be a part of a 4x4 club.
During the "winter", the temperature is pleasant. No mosquito but some insects and animals: scorpions, snakes, gazelles... In two years, I saw only two scorpions and no snake (oh sorry! yes, you can see some "nice' specimens in the " Desert Park " of Sharjah that I advice you to visit)
In the summer, don't leave alone. In the desert the temperature can easily rise above 50°C!!!
Don't hesitate to buy a GPS; it will be useful to mark down some places where you will want to come back later on and, in case of emergency, will help you to indicate your coordinates.
Always leave with a minimum of equipment :
- water
- first help kit
- GPS, compass and maps
- mobile phone (yes ! it work even in the desert)
- emergency tire inflated to 5kg (to be checked before every trip)
- electric pump
- gauge
- rope
- shovel
- jack
- piece of wood to put the jack
- recheargeable torchlight on 12v and on 220v
- big awning (to protect yourself of the sun or to put on soil when you will have to change a tire - avoids to lose tools in the sand)
- battery cables
- cooling liquid
- monkey wrench
- Some screwdrivers
- Some scotch tape, some wires
- Some oil (UB40)
